Steven will be returning for a special call-in edition of CBC Radio One’s The Current on Thursday, Jan. 13 with host Anna Maria Tremonti.
As part of the CBC’s LIVE RIGHT NOW nationwide health initiative, this special edition of The Current encourages listeners to call in and share their own stories of living and coping with mental health challenges. Host Anna Maria Tremonti will be joined by Steven and Dr. David Goldbloom, who doubles as senior medical advisor for education and public affairs at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and vice-chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada. All three will be fielding calls from listeners on what it’s like to suffer from mental illness in Canada today.
The national call-in edition follows on the heels of overwhelming audience reaction to Steven’s candid on-air discussion about his own struggles with depression on the show’s Friday, Jan. 7 broadcast. The show also featured stories on the mental health of Canadian youth, the links between creativity and mental health, and an in-depth interview with Harvard-trained pediatrician and author Mark Vonnegut – the son of late author Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and a man who has battled with bipolar disorder his entire life.
The special edition call-in show will run during The Current’s usual time slot at 8:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. NT) on Jan. 13. They will be welcoming calls from listeners to share their experiences with mental illness. If you’d like to tell your story, call 1-888-416-8333 on Thursday at 9 a.m. (9:30 a.m. NT).
