FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STEVEN PAGE WILL OPEN THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY SUN LIFE FINANCIAL WATERLOO BUSKER CARNIVAL
Steven Page, formerly of the Barenaked Ladies, will open the 25th Anniversary of the Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival on August 22nd, 2013.
24 years later, one of the carnival’s original buskers from 1990 and former member of Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page, will open the 2013 Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival. From an unknown in a band from Scarborough to an international superstar, this will truly be an Opening Ceremony worthy of the carnival’s 25th anniversary.
It was August of 1990 and the 2nd Waterloo Busker Carnival featured 25 acts over a 6-day period. There was everything from jugglers to acrobats, mimes, and yes, musicians. One of the acts was a trio of young musicians from Toronto who called themselves “Barenaked Ladies. Their bio in the program read:
“Contrary to what their name suggests, Barenaked Ladies consists of a trio of multi-talented, tongue-in-cheek musicians who can make your gloomy day quite bright. Ed Robertson (guitar, lead vocals) and Steve Page (guitar, vocals) founded B.N.L. a few short years ago and recent addition, Jim Creegan (upright bass) rounds out their full, acoustic sound that is accentuated with excellent harmonies and lots of fun-filled energy. Their most recent LP “Barenaked Lunch” has been getting lots of airplay across Canada and they’ll be debuting songs from their new eight-song LP (yet to be titled) at the Waterloo Buskers Carnival.”
Interestingly enough, that untitled album (Barenaked Recess) was never released but it included the song “Brian Wilson” which later resurfaced on the album “Gordon” and has become a fan favourite. It was written by Steve Page and undoubtedly was played during their sessions at the carnival. LIttle did the people at that carnival realize that they were witnessing stardom in the making.
It was at the 1990 Waterloo Busker Carnival that drummer, Tyler Stewart, met the trio and came on board as their drummer. This event was noted in a September 1990 People Magazine article on B.N.L.

TRAVEL+ESCAPE’S THE ILLEGAL EATER WITH HOST STEVEN PAGE BEGINS PRODUCTION
Original Series Premieres Fall 2013
(Toronto, ON) April 2, 2013 – Travel+Escape and Farpoint Films are proud to announce they have begun production on new original series The Illegal Eater with host and former Barenaked Ladies front man Steven Page. The 13-episode series will premiere in the fall of 2013. Musician and foodie Steven Page is on a mission to hunt down clandestine dining experiences as he explores the tastiest, creative, underground and often illegal spaces that chefs around North America have to offer.
“With food-based travel, the places you can go are limitless,” said Marcia Martin SVP, Original Content, Blue Ant Media. “But the one place we haven’t quite gone, is underground. We knew Steven’s extensive background in music, being on the road and love of gastronomy, would help uncover exciting and often unlicensed places to eat.”
“My passion on the road has always been to obsessively research the foods, restaurants and markets that make each place I’ve played different,” said host Steven Page. “Often, newer trends start underground before breaking through on the public’s palate, so I can’t wait to explore everything from fancy underground supper clubs to hole-in-the-walls.”
“We’re very excited to begin production and explore these underground dinner clubs,” said show creator, Chris Charney, Farpoint Films. “Our culinary journey is just beginning and we can’t wait to see how it unfolds.”
Illegal Eater is produced byFarpoint Films. The creative team includes Show Creator, Chris Charney, and Producer Kyle Bornais.
